Cenote Tuuch: The most luxurious private cenote in Tulum

Dive Into Tulum’s Sacred Waters at Shibari’s Cenote Resort

In ancient times, cenotes were considered doorways to a sacred world, and it’s no wonder: dive into their sparkling cool waters and you’ll instantly feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

At Shibari Tulum, we’ve built our hotel around one of the most beautiful cenotes in Tulum—”Tuuch,” which is the Mayan word for navel. Our cenote is a large, open-air natural pool surrounded by vibrant jungle and harmonious architecture.  Whether you come to meditate by its crystal-clear waters or dive in to see the fish and underwater plants, our secluded private cenote is a peaceful place where you can truly unwind.

What’s A Cenote Anyway?

The entire Yucatan peninsula is one big flat slab of limestone covered in lush jungle.  When limestone meets water, it dissolves and collapses, forming clear natural pools filled with pure filtered rainwater.  Thanks to that, cenotes are blessed with some of the cleanest, freshest water on Earth.

These natural sinkholes are also all connected by underground rivers or just by trickles of water through the rocks. Some people believe their intuition is clearer here, or that mental knots untie faster and healing is easier because we are always near flowing water, walking on top of rivers we can’t see, or swimming in our magical, ancient cenotes.

In our region, people have always had a profound connection with these sacred waters.  Maya villages hundreds of years ago were usually built around a cenote. It makes perfect sense – the cenote gave them fresh drinking water, a place to bathe, and a gathering spot for sacred ceremonies. At Shibari, we’ve followed the same Maya tradition and built our hotel “village” around our Cenote Tuuch.

Shibari: A Cenote Resort

At our private cenote club, a sustainably-built deck features wooden loungers and Balinese beds, where guests can bask in the sun, cool off in the cenote waters, connect with Mother Nature, and explore ancestral wisdom.

Our Cenote Club is unique, offering our guests a new level of sustainable luxury and comfort while enjoying a natural wonder. Choose to swim, snorkel, dine, book an underwater photography session, or join in one of our Cenote Ceremonies.

In our Cenote Ceremony, we purify and nourish our bodies with the cenote’s sacred waters, and offer thanks to the water spirits for their presence and guidance.  The experience is one of rejuvenation and deep connection.

The hotel also invites guests to enjoy a journey for all 5 senses on the cenote’s banks, through our restaurant Atta’s innovative cuisine, and our nearby Tuuch boutique, filled with beautiful, carefully-chosen art and accessories that reflect our vibrant local culture.  A short walk away, you’ll find our Spa Kan for ultra-relaxing luxurious natural body treatments, and our secluded private studio Soga Do, where you can take Shibari rope-binding classes, Samurai martial arts classes, and yoga in an intimate natural environment surrounded by tropical birdsong.

Whatever you choose to do during your stay, we’re sure our cenote will be part of it.   We invite you to enjoy our sacred waters, as our ancestors have for thousands of years. Please remember, as at any cenote in Tulum, to leave chemical sunblocks and repellents at home, to help us care for our beautiful home.

An unparalleled experience combining luxury and untouched nature awaits!
